
Panel “Serbia and EU – Challenges and Perspectives” held in Belgrade
22.05.2026The Direction Europe Foundation organized a panel discussion titled “A Step Towards Europe – Serbia at a Crossroads”, held on 27 May 2026 at the Miljenko Dereta Conference Center in Belgrade.
The panel was dedicated to Serbia’s European perspective, the challenges of the EU integration process, democratic reforms, and the importance of European values for the future of society.
The speakers at the panel were Pia Maria Wieninger, Member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria, Borko Stefanović, Deputy President of the Freedom and Justice Party, and Dragana Đurica, Secretary General of the European Movement in Serbia. The discussion was moderated by Nikola Burazer, Programme Director of the Centre for Contemporary Politics.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that Serbia’s European path represents one of the key issues for the country’s future, but also that this process involves much more than formal accession to the European Union. Special attention was given to the need to strengthen institutions, the rule of law, media freedom, democratic culture, regional cooperation, and open public dialogue.
The participants discussed Serbia’s position on its European path, the challenges facing society, as well as the importance of cooperation with European partners and organizations that support Serbia’s democratic development.
