Europe Day – More Than a Date, Our Shared Reality
09.05.2026The Direction Europe Foundation organized a panel discussion in Belgrade titled “Serbia and EU – Challenges and Perspectives”, dedicated to Serbia’s European perspective, the challenges of the EU integration process, and the importance of democratic reforms for the country’s future.
The panel featured Members of the European Parliament Marta Temido and Kathleen Van Brempt, as well as Dragan Đilas and Duško Lopandić. The discussion was moderated by Vladimir Međak, Vice President of the European Movement in Serbia.

During the discussion, it was emphasized that Serbia’s European future requires strong institutions, the rule of law, free media, the fight against corruption, and an open public dialogue. Special attention was given to the fact that European integration is not merely an administrative process, but a broader social task that requires responsibility, reforms, and the active participation of citizens.
The conversation also highlighted that Serbia belongs to the European family of nations and that its European path is important not only because of EU membership, but also because of building an orderly, democratic, and responsible society in which institutions function in the interest of citizens.
The panel was attended by representatives of the political, public, academic, diplomatic, and civil sectors, including Pavle Grbović, Aris Movsesijan, Ana Jakovljević, Tanasije Marinković, Sofija Mandić, Balša Božović, Nemanja Štiplija, and Tamara Tripić, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and non-governmental organizations.
The Direction Europe Foundation extends its gratitude to the speakers, moderator, guests, and partners who contributed to an open, substantive, and constructive discussion on Serbia’s European future.
Through events such as this, the Foundation continues to encourage public dialogue, the exchange of views, and cooperation between citizens, institutions, civil society, and European partners, with the aim of strengthening European values, democratic culture, and Serbia’s European perspective.
